Disease Committee

Chair Responsibilities

To oversee the science in the disease discipline, stimulate investigators to produce innovative strategies in the prevention, management and/or cure of cancer, and facilitate the development of these strategies into quality ICON protocols.

Specific Disease Committee Responsibilities

• Formulate innovative hypothesis to be tested and strategies for long term study.
• Stimulate and encourage ideas from investigators
• Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the biology and treatment of the disease under study.
• Review, evaluate and approve all studies prior to submission to the managing committee.
• A committee member will maintain a direct liaison with the study coordinator/investigator when he/she is preparing a proposed study.
• Liaise with a biostatistician on protocol design, protocol analysis and Disease Committee priorities.
• To be aware of studies being performed and planned by other groups and institutions around the world.
• Document proceedings of all Disease Committee meetings for the ICON Minutes.
• Review and approve all abstracts/manuscripts prior to submission for presentation/publication.
• Approach sponsors for funding as needed.
